Kate Stonehill

Kate is an award-winning documentary filmmaker working at the intersection of power, technology, and citizenship in the digital age. Her feature documentary Phantom Parrot (2023)—a nonfiction thriller exposing a secret U.K. government surveillance program—premiered at CPH:DOX and Sheffield Doc/Fest, screened theatrically across the U.K and in the Houses of Parliament., and was acquired for U.S. distribution by Tribeca Films. Her short films include The Family Statement (Field of Vision, 2022), Mother (BFI London Film Festival, 2020), and the RTS and Grierson Award–winning Fake News Fairytale (2018). Her work has been supported by BFI Doc Society, Catapult Film Fund, Tribeca Film Institute, and The Fund for Investigative Journalism, and featured by Field of Vision, The Atlantic Selects, Short of the Week, and Vimeo Staff Pick. She is a recipient of the Logan Nonfiction Fellowship. Kate has worked internationally as a cinematographer and has taught filmmaking and delivered guest lectures at the National Film & Television School, the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague, and UCL. She is currently developing a series of new projects that critically and creatively engage with emerging AI technologies, including the short film Thank You For Allowing Me To Speak With You Today, which premiered at Mozilla Festival in 2025.
