R.J. Lozada is a documentary filmmaker whose works explore the Filipino diaspora, communities in flux, and the criminal justice system, namely its impacted communities. His films have screened at Sundance, Tribeca, CAAM Fest, San Diego Asian Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, NYTimes Op-Docs, the Atlantic, Short of the Week, and various classrooms across the world. His film Distance Between (2015) was awarded Grand Jury Prize at the San Diego Asian Film Festival, and Best Short Documentary at the DisOrient Film Festival. He has received commissions and support from the Pacific Arts Movement, Visual Communications, the Center for Asian American Media and is currently a fellow at the inaugural Line of Sight Fellowship with Sentient Art Film. R.J. is a graduate of Stanford University’s M.F.A. Documentary Film and Video program and has taught at Stanford University. He is also currently a commissioned producer with Mount Tamalpais College, the first accredited college within a United States Prison at San Quentin State Prison.
